In recent years the number of premature births has increased considerably. Looking after a premature baby is very similar to looking after one that had a full gestation, but there are a few precautions that should be taken in relation to feeding, hygiene, sleep and clothing.
Hygiene
Premature babies are more prone to catching possible illnesses, so it is important to wash your hands very well before picking the baby up and to keep his bedroom and clothes exceptionally clean.
As far as possible, we should not allow too many visits, but if they come anyway, we should make sure that these people do not have a cold or any other kind of contagious illness.
We should change the baby’s nappy every three or four hours, even if it is still clean.
It is very important for the bedroom to have natural light and be well ventilated. We should also keep a room temperature of between 20 and 24 degrees Celsius.
Physical contact with the parents is fundamental for a baby’s development, and bath time is the perfect moment for interaction and stimulation.
Food
Premature babies eat more often, 8 or 10 times a day, as they need more calories for correct growth. In certain cases, the doctor might even prescribe some kind of vitamin supplement to complete your baby’s nutrition.
Sleep
Premature babies sleep more than babies born after 9 months. Sleep periods tend to be shorter and they wake up more often.
Clothing
When it comes to dressing a premature baby, we should choose clothes that are easy to put on and take off. It is very important for the clothes to be made of a quality fabric that is soft to the touch. At PAZ, we have various garments and looks specially conceived for premature babies.
We should also avoid accessories like zips that could harm or damage the baby’s delicate skin.
If the temperatures are low, we should opt for warm clothes. A good way of maintaining the baby’s body temperature is to put a soft bonnet on. If it is summer, the best idea is to use fresh light clothes that transpire.
In our collection you will find a great variety of rompers and sets for your premature baby. All of them are designed with a lot of love, taking care of the tiniest detail so that each garment is a delicate caress.
