The cold weather is here to stay and winter is just around the corner. It’s time to face up to the great dilemma: what should our little angels wear in the winter? It’s hard enough deciding what they should wear in the rest of the year, and in winter it becomes a real challenge.
Faced with the threat of cold and colds, we are never sure if they are wearing too much or too little. Do you want to know how to get it just right? Then don’t miss this post! Today we’re going to solve parents’ most common doubts about how to keep children warm in winter.
What parts should always be covered up?
Even if we are tempted to wrap up our children without leaving even the tiniest part of their delicate skin exposed to the cold, we should of course not forget that some parts of the body are more sensitive to the cold than others: the feet, hands and ears. So they should always wear gloves, thick socks and a bonnet with earflaps to keep the cold out.
Various layers or one thick garment?
Many parents, thinking of their children’s comfort, fall into the trap of making them wear a thick sweater or polo shirt with a T-shirt underneath instead of various different layers, which is a much better option. If our children wear different layers, when they start playing and get warm we can easily take one layer off so that they feel more comfortable and don’t have to sweat or get hot. And not just that! It has been proven that various layers keep out the cold better.
What are the essential garments for keeping them nice and warm?
When you dress your child in the morning, put yourself in his shoes, as contrary to what false popular myths say, children feel the cold just as much as we do. The only difference is that they tend to move about more, so they get warm faster. So which layers are the essential ones?
On top they need a warm T-shirt, a winter sweater and a jacket to go out in. If it’s really cold, you can always use two T-shirts instead of one.
In addition to this the best idea is winter trousers, some nice thick socks and shoes that keep their feet warm and dry without making them uncomfortable – like some warm boots. Is it freezing cold? You can always use some woollen tights under the trousers. And don’t forget the bonnet with earflaps.
